A highly experienced and sought after Costume Designer, Edie Kurzer has numerous credits across film, theatre, television and commercials.
She has recently completed the 2 part mini series MOLLY (based on Molly Meldrum’s autobiography) for Channel 7 and a Gillian Armstrong Documentary about the Australian Costume Designer ORRY KELLY.
She has also designed the 2 part mini series SECRET RIVER (based on the highly successful book by Kate Grenville) released on the ABC in 2015.
In 2009 Edie collaborated with director Shirley Barrett, designing the period costumes on the feature film South Solitary (starring Miranda Otto). Subsequently she worked with director Nadia Tass on her feature film Matching Jack.
Some of her many other feature film credits include Look Both Ways (written and directed by Sarah Watt); Tempted (directed by Bill Bennett and starring Burt Reynolds); In a Savage Land (Bill Bennett) and Thank God he Met Lizzie (Cherie Nowlan and starring Cate Blanchett, Richard Roxburgh and Frances O’Connor).
For television, Edie has also designed the costumes for children’s TV series Snake Tales, the mini-series Violent Earth and telemovies On the Dead Side, Street Angels and His Masters Ghost.
In Theatre Edie has worked with renowned director Mike Leigh designing costumes for both his Royal Stratford Theatre (U.K.) and Belvoir Street productions of A Greek Tragedy. She designed costumes on Nadia Tass’ The Other Place and Simon Phillips’ Two Brothers for the Melbourne Theatre Company, John Bell’s Pericles for the Bell Shakespeare Company, Stalker Theatre Company’s productions of Incognito and Crying Baby and both sets and costumes on Nigel Jamieson’s Kelly’s Republic at the Sydney Opera House for the Sydney Festival, among others.
She is also interested in costume design/styling for TVC’s and has been working on a number of these recently – MONARCH TOWER, YILI YOGHURT (for the Chinese market), RACV, A.C.T.U., Worksafe, I.S.F. etc.
In 2011 Edie spent 4 months sabbatical in Finland. During this time she was a guest Costume lecturer at Aalto University in Helsinki. She has also taught fabric printing in the Arnhemland community of Ngukurr and tutored at the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
In 2013 she was guest lecturer in Costume at the National Theatre Drama School, St. Kilda.
Edie has traveled extensively for work and pleasure.
